Where your GP-33 library lives
What it is
GP-33 keeps your music in one folder, which becomes your music library. Out of the box that folder is Music/Groovemark located in your home folder.
If you'd rather keep your music somewhere else you can point GP-33 to a different location. This can be done by going to: Settings > Files > Library location
How the switch works
If you choose a new location it's a switch, not a move. Nothing is copied, nothing is deleted, and the folder you left stays exactly as it was. The setting is remembered, so the next launch opens on the same folder.
Reset takes you back to the out-of-the-box folder.
When the new folder already has music in it
Most people arrive with music from somewhere else. When you point GP-33 at a folder with existing music, GP-33 will import those files into the library, filed by artist and album. A file that already exists under the same name is left alone, never overwritten.
Your originals stay where they were unless you tick the box. Tick it and each original goes to the macOS Trash once its copy is safely in the library. The Trash is recoverable, so a change of mind is a Put Back away.
Say not now and nothing happens. The offer comes back the next time you switch to that folder.
A large folder on a slow drive takes a while to count. The offer appears when the count is done.
What a file is
Get Info on any song has a File tab. It shows what the file is, read straight from the file: the kind, how long it plays, its size, bit rate, sample rate, channels, and bit depth where the format has one, the physical format it was tagged with, when it was last changed, when it joined the library, and where it lives. Click the location to see the file selected in Finder.
What we never do
We never move or delete a file when you change the library location. We never scan or touch a folder you haven't pointed us at. An original is only ever moved to the Trash when you tick the box asking for that, and only after its copy is in the library. Every part of this happens on your Mac. Nothing about your library or your folders leaves it.
