Preparing your recording for Groovemark

Groovemark

Following the three below rules will set you up for maximum success. Open your recording in Audacity, or whichever program you recorded with, and assure you edit: the start, each flip, and the end.

The 3 required rules for successful Groovemark exports

1. Start on the first song

It's required to trim everything before the first note of the first song: the needle drop, the lead-in groove, any hum. Your file has to start with the first note of the first track on the first side.

2. Clean up Surface Noise at the Flips

For each flip, trim the surface noise after the last song on the side and before the first song on the next, so what's left between the sides is true clean quiet. This helps us identify the flips better. Leave at least 10 seconds of silence between flips. That quiet is how we find the sides; see How to record an album.

Trimming the surface noise out of the gap between two sides, in Audacity. 10 seconds, silent.

3. End on the last song

Trim everything after the last note: the run-out groove, the needle lifting. This is required. Your file should end where the music ends.

Save it

Save the album as one file, lossless: WAV, AIFF, FLAC or ALAC.
